If your children have begun to eagerly ask when their Scout Elf is due to return for the holiday season, you’re not alone. As soon as November rolls around, kids across Canada eagerly await the return of their magical Scout Elf. But when exactly do the elves come back? And what if yours is running late?
Here’s your official Santaverse-approved answers!
When Do Scout Elves Usually Return?

Most Scout Elves arrive during Scout Elf Return Week™, which takes place each year from 24th November to 1st December. It’s the magical kick-off to the Christmas season. It’s when elves begin their journeys back to families from coast to coast, from the Maritimes to the mountains of British Columbia.
Your elf may arrive right on time… or take a few extra days. And that’s perfectly normal.
Why Might Your Elf Be a Bit Late?
Even the most punctual Scout Elf can be delayed. Here are some reasons Santa gave us for the short tardiness:
1. More Elf Training Was Needed
Flying across Canada, dodging chimney smoke and twinkle lights takes serious skill! Your elf may have needed extra time at Elf Flight School, maybe even a refresher on snowy rooftop landings in Yellowknife.
2. Too Many Holiday Treats
Santa’s sweet shop is open late this time of year, and Scout Elves have a hard time resisting candy canes and Tim Bits. A peppermint nap might have slowed them down!

3. Winter Weather Woes
Even with magic, blizzards can delay flight paths. If it’s been especially snowy or stormy in your region, your elf might be waiting for clear skies over Saskatoon or a break in the flurries in Halifax.
4. They Made a Few Stops
Some elves enjoy sightseeing along the way, maybe peeking in on a curling match in Manitoba or watching skaters on Ottawa’s Rideau Canal. But don’t worry, they always make it home.
5. They Were Helping Santa Finish Prep
Elves have a lot of responsibilities, sending your letters to Santa, sorting through all the mail and preparing for the next day. Yours might have been finishing up before making the trip to your house.

Whenever They Arrive, the Magic Begins
Whether your Scout Elf arrives on 24 November or pops up closer to mid-December, they’re just as excited to spend the season with your family.
The first morning you spot your elf marks the beginning of something special, daily surprises, festive cheer, and the kind of magical memories that last a lifetime.
