Every great story needs a great storyteller. In The Rise of Nicholas the Noble, that role belongs to Fisbee, a sharp-witted, warm-hearted, history-loving Scout Elf with a flair for description and a front-row seat to Christmas history.

Fisbee is far more than a narrator. He is a legend. As the very first Scout Elf ever to be adopted by a human family, he helped pioneer what we now know in Canada and beyond as The Elf on the Shelf® tradition. He knows Santa Claus personally, understands the Spirit of Christmas deeply, and shares the tale of young Nicholas with warmth, humour, and just the right touch of dramatic flair.

“I, for one, BELIEVE.
That’s right, from the tip of my hat
to the very end of my rounded little red feet,
I trust in the spirit of the jolly man
you now know as Santa Claus.”
–Fisbee, Narrator

Telling Santa’s Tale from the Inside

Fisbee opens The Rise of Nicholas the Noble with the very question Canadian children ask year after year: Does Santa Claus really exist? He doesn’t avoid the question, instead, he leans in with a wink and an invitation to discover a story full of wonder, hope, and the magic of Christmas spirit.

His voice is sincere, but never dull. Fisbee sprinkles his narration with sparkle and humour that even the most sceptical readers can enjoy. He breaks the fourth wall, he pokes fun at himself when he rambles, and he keeps the story lively and engaging.

Behind the laughter, though, is deep wisdom. Fisbee has lived for centuries, and he carries the weight of elfin history with reverence and joy. That sense of awe shines through every line of his narration, inviting readers in Canadian households to feel like they, too, are sitting at the North Pole listening to history unfold.

“I have a story to tell you—
this is the story of my dear friend Nicholas…”

The First Scout Elf: A Leap of Faith

Long before Elf on the Shelf became a tradition across Canadian homes each December, Fisbee was the first elf to take a leap of faith and join a human family.

Santa had an idea, if elves visited families during the Christmas season, watching, listening, and learning about their holiday traditions, it could build even more joy and Christmas Spirit. That spirit, in turn, fuels Santa’s magic and keeps Christmas alive around the world.

Fisbee became the first test case. Sent to the Aebersold family, he was adopted into their household, flying back to the North Pole each night to report what he saw, then returning each morning to bring fresh magic to their days.

There were no handbooks. No rulebooks. No official name for what he was doing. Fisbee was the trailblazer, the elf who dared to believe it could work, and made it so.

He didn’t know if humans would believe in him. He didn’t know if his magic would endure. But he took the risk, and because he did, families across Canada now know the joy of welcoming a Scout Elf each Christmas season.

Honored by Santa

Today, Fisbee still wears the classic red suit like every Scout Elf, but he is set apart by one unique distinction. Around his neck hangs a medallion shaped like the Lumistella Star, gifted to him by Santa in recognition of his role as the first reporting Scout Elf.

In the Kingdom of the One True North, Fisbee is revered, but not because he’s flashy or famous. He’s loved because he’s just real. He tells the truth. He laughs at himself. He remembers what matters. And even with centuries of stories to name, he still gets excited to tell the next one.

The Voice of Christmas History

In The Rise of Nicholas the Noble, Fisbee doesn’t step into the action as a character, but he is our trusted guide. He knows Nicholas personally, the boy who will become Santa Claus, and he understands the meaning of the story in a way few others could.

Fisbee’s voice serves as the bridge between the reader and the world of One True North. He fills in gaps, asks the very questions we might be wondering, and when emotions rise, he leaves space for readers to feel them.

He doesn’t just recount the story. He carries it, shaped by memory, legend, and the magic of community that spans generations, something Canadians, who treasure family traditions, can truly connect with.

The Magic of the Lumistella Star

When a shard of the great Lumistella Star, also known as the Christmas Star, fell to Earth at One True North, everything changed for the elves who lived there. That celestial fragment became the source of all Christmas magic, granting Scout Elves their ability to fly to Santa each night, giving Noorah the power to pause time, and fuelling the Spirit of Christmas in the hearts of children across the world.

“…a piece of that very star, in the form of a comet,
broke off and crashed into Lumincients Landing—
the home of the arctic elves…The core of that comet
brought a new kind of magic to the elves
and the Mountains of Enchantment. We called it
the Lumistella Stone, and it changed everything for us.”

It’s unclear yet if Fisbee was there in the very beginning, but he was definitely there in the early days, when the elves were still learning what the magic could do and how it could be used for good. That same magic flows through all Scout Elves now, as they continues to report, to guide, and to honor the gift of the Lumistella Stone.

Why Fisbee Matters

Fisbee reminds us that being first is never simple. Believing in something before anyone else does takes courage. Sometimes the greatest risk isn’t facing danger, it’s speaking up, stepping out, and trusting that your story matters.

“That’s right— I, Fisbee, am one of the lucky
Scout Elves who are known to human families
as ‘The Elf on the Shelf’! I was the first official
Elf on the Shelf ever adopted by a human.”
